“Transition of time / The return to homeland ”

“ If you want to understand art, you have to take a step backward.” This saying, expressing the difficulty in interpreting artistic works, may not suit the new art exhibition by “ Somboon Hormtientong ” He is an astist who travaled along distance to Munich, Germany, to create his art ,identity,and reputation for more than half of his life. And his new exhibition is just not that complicated.

“So zu Sehen” exhibition or in English, “ Just as you see it ” a strang – sounding exhibition, implies the simple yet profound concept in creating art. Just like poety, art should allow one to freely absorb the power of its beauty, and to inter prêt and construct the meaning of a piece of art for himself.

A play production by leading and rising actors of two nationalities presented through four significant concepts revolving around human beings: life, death, happiness, and difference. Four concepts lapse into 5 stories within a single setting of one room.

SHO, half Thai-Japanese, an acting student and the main initiator of this bi-cultural project, finds that Thailand’s theater circle is not as big as it should be, considering what this art has to offer. And people in general hardly have any interest to afford going to see a play (in contrast with movie or TV shows).

SHO, then, has got this particular ambition to create an activity that will help improve Thailand’s theater. He determines to create a production that goes beyond the common styles of Thai theater productions. His effort pays off in having a leading Thai actor Wannasak “Kuck” Sirilar and a well-known Japanese actor in Thailand Yano Kaziki to join his team, as well as other actors and actresses both Thai and Japanese.

The group has been participating in their acting workshops and creating stories and theatrical presentations together for over a month, and is now ready to let everyone experience a production of two cultures on Semtember 4 – 9, 2007 at Tadu Contemporary Art .

People living in the modern world have a more shallow view on relationships. Being partners does not require much thought, while marriage has become easier than ever. It is not built to last, and can be easily destroyed by one of the three popular choices: infidelity, separation or divorce. It happens everyday, as if nobody really cares about the phrase “Till death do us part” anymore.

This way of life leads to a very common question: “What is a definition of ‘love’ of the people in this era?” Is it a journey that two people take into eternity, just a game of sex and deception that two people compete against each other, or one of the tactics one can use to get what he or she wants? This performance aims to explore all these questions, and then turn to ask the audience if their love and relationship values are really the way they should be. Is it time to make some changes in our way of life?
